This study investigated the Cybersecurity Threats and Their Implications on Academic Achievement among Computer Science Education Students in Universities in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 317 students using a structured and validated questionnaire. Analyses were conducted using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation using SPSS. The findings revealed that cyber threats such as phishing, malware attacks, password breaches, and unauthorized access to digital platforms are highly prevalent and significantly affect students’ academic performance. A statistically significant negative correlation was observed between exposure to cybersecurity threats and academic achievement. Furthermore, although a moderate level of awareness existed among students, preparedness to handle cyber threats was relatively lower, indicating a gap between knowledge and practical response capacity. The study recommends the integration of cybersecurity education into the curriculum, improved digital infrastructure, institutional partnerships with cybersecurity organizations, and consistent awareness training for students.
2025-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of Continuing and Development Education https://journalcde.com/index.php/jcde/article/view/150 THE NEED FOR PRIVATE SECTOR INVOLVEMENT IN EXTENSION EDUCATION SERVICE DELIVERY IN NIGERIA 2025-06-30T14:43:51+00:00 Babangida Ladan babangidaladan@gmail.com
The paper outlined the need for private sector involvement in extension education service delivery in Nigeria. The paper therefore discussed the concepts of extension and agricultural extension; trends in private sector involvement in agricultural extension; the need for private sector involvement in extension education service delivery. In order to buttress the need for private sector involvement in the delivery of extension education services, the paper highlighted the prospects for private sector extension organizations in Nigeria in the areas of strengthening farmers organizations, collaboration between public and private extension organizations, gradual emergence of private extension organizations and NGOs. The paper concluded that the practice of private sector involvement in agricultural extension organizations has gained significant attention and importance in recent years. YouTube in particular provides an innovative supplement to traditional teaching methods. This study therefore investigates the impact of YouTube videos on students' academic achievement and retention in secondary school chemistry classes in Bwari Area Council, Abuja. It examined how the use of chemistry-related videos influences students' understanding of concepts, academic achievement, and long-term retention. Quasi-experimental research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 120 chemistry students was selected using stratified random sampling to ensure proportional representation across different schools and academic levels. The participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 60) exposed to YouTube-supported chemistry instructions and a control group (n = 60) receiving traditional instruction. The reliability index of the achievement test was calculated using Cronbach's alpha, yielding a coefficient of 0.95, indicating high reliability. The study employed a pre-test/post-test design, with retention tests administered after four weeks. The findings revealed significant differences in academic achievement (t = 7.25, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.2) and retention (t = 6.50, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 1.1) between the experimental and control groups, favor the experimental group. The population of this study consisted of all the 428 students of National Open University of Nigeria in study centres in Enugu State. All the students served as sample for the study. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by two experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha Reliability Coefficient. The overall reliability coefficient was .63, indicating that the instrument is reliable and suitable for the study. The data collected with the questionnaire were analyzed using Mean (x̅) with Standard Deviation (SD) to answer the two research questions. The analyses were done with the use of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN ENUGU STATE IN THE AREA OF PROVISION OF SAFE DRINKING WATER 2024-10-24T09:05:52+00:00 Nneka Emilia Ugwu nnekaemilia99@gmail.com
Access to safe drinking water remains a pressing development challenge in Nigeria, particularly in Enugu State where rural and peri-urban communities often depend on unsafe water sources. While government and donor interventions have attempted to address these gaps, the contributions of women’s organizations in water provision have received limited scholarly attention. This study examined the role of women’s organizations in the implementation of community development projects in Enugu State with specific focus on safe drinking water. Guided by the participatory development framework, the study employed a mixed-methods design, combining surveys of 220 women leaders across six local government areas with in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Findings revealed that women’s organizations contribute significantly through resource mobilization for borehole construction, maintenance of community water facilities, and advocacy for improved sanitation and hygiene practices. However, challenges such as limited financial capacity, inadequate technical expertise, and weak institutional support were identified as constraints. The study concludes that women’s organizations remain critical stakeholders in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6 at the grassroots level. It recommends stronger government–community partnerships, capacity-building for women leaders, and gender-inclusive policy frameworks to enhance the sustainability of safe drinking water initiatives in Enugu State
2024-12-06T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Continuing and Development Education
