Abstract

The study examined the effect of co-operative method of teaching on academic achievement of adult education students in Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze. In Two research questions and two hypotheses tested at 05 level of significance. All the 35 NCE one and two Adult Education students in Adult Education Department of Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze were used for the study. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design; these students were randomly assigned to two groups (Experiment and Control). The Experimental group was taught using co-operative method while the control, group was taught using lecture method. The instrument used for data collection was adult Education Achievement Test (AEAT) which contained forty-five multiple choice tests. Data collected were analyzed using percentage mean and t-tests statistics. The findings showed that experiment group performed significantly higher than the control group. The study recommended amongst others that co-operative teaching method should be employed in Teaching Adult Education in Tertiary Institutions
