MANAGING FUNCTIONAL SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR LEADERSHIP, VALUES RE-ORIENTATION AND SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

This paper focused on managing functional secondary education for leadership, values re-orientation and sustainable national development. Functional secondary education is education that exposes the learner to knowledge that is of value equipping him/her with relevant skills to be functional and productive. To attain sustainable national development, education must be functional, have values and skills. In this paper, the authors have attempted to present what functional education is, the need for functional and values re-orientation in the secondary education in Nigeria. The concepts of value re-orientation and sustainable national development were highlighted. The authors noted that for functional education to derive leadership values re-orientation and sustainable national development, it has to be managed. What we manage in education and why we manage education as well as reasons for in functional secondary education were highlighted. Attempts were made also to examine how functional secondary education ought to be managed to derive sustainable national development and public expectation of functional secondary education graduates.
