Abstract

The study investigated the constraints to the provision of Adult and non- formal education programme to correctional inmates in Enugu state. Three research questions were posed .Survey research design was used to carry out the study. Two hundred and twenty seven learners were the subject of the study. An instrument titled Constraints to the Provision of Adult and Non- formal Education Programmes Questionnaire (CPAECPQ) was validated by experts and found reliable. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. Results obtained from the study showed that government related constraints such as government does not give priority attention to Adult and Non-formal education in the correctional centre. Government does not provide enough material resources in Enugu correctional centre. Government does not motivate correctional inmates to participate. Government does not motivate the instructors or facilitators, are the constraints militating against the provision of Adult and Non- education programme in Enugu correctional centre studied. Based on the findings, it recommended among others, government at all level should ensure that the Adult education should effectively be implemented at all level to enable it fulfill its mandate as a critical agent of transformation.
