INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY: A STRATEGY FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC WELLBEING OF RURAL WOMEN IN ENUGU STATE NIGERIA

The focus of this study was to ascertain the influence of information and communication Technology (ICT) skills development on socio-economic well-being of rural women in Enugu State, Nigeria. One research question and one null hypothesis guided this study. The design of the study was a descriptive surgery design. The population of the study was 2,173124 rural women from 14 out of 17 Local Governments Area in Enugu State. The sample size for this study was 3760 respondent using Taro Yamane sampling technique structural questionnaire developed by the researcher was used for the study. The instrument was validated by the three research experts. The reliability co-efficient of 0.78 was obtained. The finding which emerged from the study revealed that acquisition of ICT skills by rural women is the solution for the advancement of the socio-economic wellbeing of rural women in Enugu state, Nigeria. It was recommended among that government should encourage rural women to enroll in ICT classes and programmes as to eradicate computer illiteracy among them. The paper concluded by recommending that there is an urgent need to improve the representative of women in the use of the new technology to enhance their status
