UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN TEACHING AND LEARNING IN ADULT EDUCATION CENTRES IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study investigated the utilization of information and communication technology in teaching and learning in adult education centres in Enugu State, Nigeria. Two research questions were formulated for the study. The design for this study was descriptive survey. The population of the study was one thousand two hundred participants of adult learners in the study area, simple and accidental random sampling techniques were used to draw the sample size of 600 respondents. Researchers developed questionnaire titled Utilization ofInformation and Communication Technology Questionnaire (UICTQ). The instrument for data was 17 items Questionnaire which was validated by research experts and tested with a reliability estimate of 0.89 using Crombach alpha statistics. The data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentages. The findings which emerged from the study revealed that provision steady electricity, internet services, provision of qualified ICT staff, training of facilitators and low prices of connectivity etc are needed for effective utilization and also the study revealed that website, chatrooms, magnetic board, computers, whatsAPP, face book, projector and e-note book have high level of utilization. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that government at various levels and donor agencies should provide adequate funds and retraining programmes for facilitators for effective use of ICT facilities in adult education study centres.
