ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES AS A TOOL FOR PROMOTING DIGITAL LITERACY AMONG ADULT LEARNERS IN NIGERIA.

Abstract

Society is transforming so fast into one which is based on information, requiring its citizens to be familiar with and at ease with information/ digital based resources and manipulations. This paper examined the need for adult education programmes as a tool for promoting digital literacy among adult learners in Nigeria. The use of literacy to reflect how technology and information dissemination in the development of literacy skills. The paper also looked at various adult education programmes that will enhance the promotion of digital literacy and the need for users of technology to be competent and to incorporate it into their everyday lives. The paper also concluded by examining various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills that will benefit the adult learners during and after their course of study. There is need for more vibrant ICT awareness campaign in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
